May Should Be Star Wars Appreciation Month

I really do think May should be Star Wars Appreciation Month. I recently posted this tweet: Considering all of the Star Wars themed days in May, I decree that May should be deemed “Star Wars Appreciation Month” @starwars @HamillHimself @rianjohnson @Disney — Matt V. (@mvbiggs) May 1, 2018 Of course I’m sure most people are not quite as in tune with the nerd culture to understand just how many days in May are (or can be) linked to Star Wars. I’m sure everyone knows the two more popular days but there are more than you think. So I’m here to enlighten everyone on the days [… Click to Continue …]

Amazing. Everything They Say Is Wrong

The Last Jedi seems to be the most polarizing movie among fans in the history of the franchise. This is the impression one will get while reading social media and blogs. Granted it is difficult to believe everything you read because there are numerous trolls intentionally trashing the movie and driving down audience scores. I think the percentage of haters is far lower than we are all lead to believe. However, to that end I thought I would select a few particular themes these obtuse and belligerent fans allege are “wrong” with The Last Jedi. WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD – If you haven’t seen the movie [… Click to Continue …]

The Forlorn Fair Weather Fans

I have been a Chicago Cubs fan my whole life. It’s a family legacy that has been instilled in me from my father, passed down from his father. In 2016, when the unbelievable happened, while all the life long fans were euphoric, suddenly there were all these new fans. Perhaps their first World Series championship in 108 years spawned new fans, to which I say welcome to the party. However, those that gave up [… Click to Continue …]

Book Review: Shatterpoint

Shatterpoint by Matthew Woodring Stover My rating: (Click here to check out this review on Goodreads) Even the strongest of gems have that one spot where they are weakest. The one spot that creates a cascading effect which causes it to shatter. Everything has a shatterpoint, including Jedi. This is Jedi Master Mace Windu’s talent, he can find a person’s shatterpoint. The one thing where they are weakest and thus use it to claim an advantage. He will need this ability when he has to return to his home world of Haruun Kal to find out what has become of his former padawan, Depa Billaba. [… Click to Continue …]

Setting Expectations for The Last Jedi

We are less than a week away from the release of Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi. It is time for the obligatory Star Wars movie post about setting expectations for The Last Jedi. In addition to the same expectations I spoke about regarding The Force Awakens, there are a few other factors we should also consider. I do this because even as an avid fan, it’s important to set a reasonable bar before going to see the movie. After all, we don’t want it end up like the Justice League movie. The Force Awakens Box Office Numbers If you have forgotten, let me [… Click to Continue …]

Happy Star Wars Day!!!

All the Trekkies and comic book fans are rolling their eyes right now. Yes, it is Star Wars Day! Those fans of inferior nerd cultures are green with envy because they lack a celebratory day. This year is especially significant as it is also the 40th anniversary of the film that changed our lives. There are usually several sales going on so I will try to update this post with links to those sales if/when I see them. Feel free to leave links to sales you have found in the comments. I would also like to know how you are spending your Star Wars Day? I [… Click to Continue …]
